The Greater Tulsa Area Indian Affairs Commission (GTAIAC) is a group of mayoral and county appointed leaders established by City Ordinance. GTAIAC primarily serves in an advisory capacity to the Mayor and City Council by conducting research, recommending policies, programs, and initiatives, and directly advocating for Indian people. The 23-members' primary mission is the advancement of American Indian culture and heritage and/or the provision of services to American Indians.

The Commission is comprised of 23 Mayoral and County appointed commissioners, including 15 organizations serving the Native American community and 8 individual appointees.

NATIVE ARTIST APPLICATION FOR THE TULSA NATIVE AMERICAN DAY CELEBRATION 2026

The Tulsa Native American Day Committee invites Native artists to submit original artwork for consideration to be the Featured Artist or a Showcase Artist at the Tulsa’s 2026 Native American Day Celebration.

This year’s theme, Sovereign Roots / Shared Future, honors the strength of tribal sovereignty, the depth of distinct histories, and the power of coming together for a stronger future.

Featured Artist Criteria
One artist will be selected as the 2026 Featured Artist. The selected artwork will be displayed on official Native American Day shirts, featured on event posters, and provided a booth with a priority location at Native American Day. The selected Featured Artist will receive an honorarium for the use of their artwork for the Native American Day Celebration materials. Because the selected artwork will be reproduced on shirts and posters, submissions must be presented in a format that translates visually into a two-dimensional printed design. The committee will evaluate submissions based on artistic merit, connection to the theme Sovereign Roots / Shared Visions, and overall visual impact for use in event materials.

Showcase Artist Opportunity
All eligible submissions will also be considered for selection as a Showcase Artist. This category is open to all artistic mediums, including works that may not be suitable for reproduction on
event shirts or posters. Showcase artists will be recognized during the Native American Day Celebration and may have their work highlighted through event programming, social media, or other promotional opportunities. The committee will evaluate submissions based on artistic merit and connection to the theme Sovereign Roots / Shared Future.

Submission Requirements
Each entry must include:
• One primary piece of artwork submitted for consideration
• The artist’s name and enrolled tribal affiliation
• A brief artist statement describing how the piece reflects the theme Sovereign Roots / Shared
Visions
• Contact information
• Artists are encouraged to include a link to an online portfolio, page or website where additional
examples of their work may be viewed. If information is not available online, artists may include
additional examples of their work with their submission to demonstrate style and skill.
