Who This Is For
This site is for families with children and youth from birth through age 21, especially those with or at risk for complex mental health needs. It is also for caregivers, educators, and community members looking for support or resources for a child or family.

The City of Tulsa is proud to lead the Children’s Mental Health Initiative (CMHI), which works with families and community partners to strengthen mental health supports for children and youth across Tulsa.

CMHI focuses on children and youth ages 0–21 who are experiencing, or are at risk for, serious or complex mental health needs. We recognize that access to mental health care is often shaped by family circumstances, system involvement, and the availability of community supports.

Our work is guided by youth and family voice and grounded in a commitment to creating a safe, trauma-informed, and inclusive system that ensures children and caregivers can access the supports they need.

A System of Care is an approach to supporting children, youth, and families that brings together multiple systems and services to work in a more connected way.

Instead of families having to navigate services on their own, a System of Care recognizes that children’s mental health is connected to many parts of their lives.

This approach connects:

  • Mental health services
  • Health services
  • Early childhood services
  • Educational services
  • Juvenile justice services
  • Child welfare and social services
  • Substance use services
  • Vocational and transition services
  • Recreational and community programs

CMHI also serves families and youth who may be navigating additional challenges that affect access to care, including:

  • Family stress or instability
  • Difficulty meeting basic needs such as food or housing
  • Transitions between childhood and adulthood
  • Language or communication barriers
  • Involvement with child-serving systems such as education, child welfare, juvenile justice, or homelessness services
