Certain Residential, Small Commercial Water Meters to be Replaced Starting Next Week

10/6/2026

Beginning next week, Meter Works, a City contractor, will begin replacing more than 600 residential and small commercial water meters due to a manufacturer defect.

The affected meters will be replaced at no cost to Tulsans or the City of Tulsa, with the manufacturer to cover the cost of both the replacement and the labor.

What’s Happening
Meter Works will begin replacing approximately 609 water meters across Tulsa early next week, with the initial round of work expected to be completed within a week. The affected meters are part of an initial group of approximately 9,200 Neptune ultrasonic meters (automatic meters) recently installed at Tulsa properties, all of which will end up being replaced later this year due to defects in the manufacturing.

What Affected Customers Need to Know

It's important to note that Tulsa utility customers with defective meters have already had their accounts placed on standard estimated billing that uses historical usage for their property to generate the usage amount, which is the same reliable method used when manual reads are unavailable at addresses still without an automated meter. Throughout this process, all billing has remained aligned with that historical usage at every affected address.

More Information
In 2024, the City of Tulsa launched its True Reads program to replace more 145,000 aging residential water meters with automated systems. This multi-year project was designed to upgrade the City's system while simultaneously identifying any remaining lead service lines to comply with updated federal environmental standards.
