City Hall, Municipal Court, Other Facilities Closed Monday for Tulsa Race Massacre Observance Day; Trash, Recycling Will Be Collected

Mayor Nichols to Share Plan for Road to Repair June 1

In March of this year, Mayor Nichols announced an annual day of observance on June 1, which recognizes the lives lost during the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre and serves as a day for residents, schools, businesses, and community organizations to participate in appropriate observances, activities, and discussions that reflect the significance of the day and forever honor the memory of those who lost their lives.

As part of this annual day of observance, City Hall, Municipal Court and other City facilities will be closed Monday, June 2, for Tulsa Race Massacre Observance Day. Public safety and mission critical operations, however, will operate as normal. Residents who need assistance with a water or sewer problem may call the following 24-hour emergency numbers: water - (918) 596-9488, and sewer - (918) 586-6999.

Refuse and recycling will be collected on Monday, June 2, according to their regular schedule.

Yard waste and bulky waste will service Monday's scheduled pickups on Tuesday, June 3.

The City of Tulsa mulch site, 2100 N. 145th East Ave., will be closed on Monday, June 2, and will reopen on Tuesday, June 3. On the days after these closures, the mulch site will operate on its regular schedule: Sunday through Tuesday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., closed on Wednesday and open again Thursday through Saturday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The City of Tulsa Animal Services at 3031 N. Erie Ave. will be open on Monday, June 2, for its normal hours of 2 to 6 p.m. Tulsa Animal Services is usually open daily from 2 to 6 p.m.

Tulsa Parks recreation centers will be closed on Monday, June 2. The Mohawk Park and Page Belcher golf courses, however, will be open on Monday. The Tulsa Zoo will also be open on Monday.

Oxley Nature Center visitors center will be closed on Monday, but the Oxley trails will be open.

MetroLink Tulsa will provide regular services on Monday, June 2.

Mayor to Announce Plan for Road to Repair June 1
As part of the City of Tulsa’s first Tulsa Race Massacre Observance Day, Mayor Nichols will share his plans for a Road to Repair that will help unify Tulsans and heal multi-generational wounds from the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre, which stands as one of the worst race massacres in U.S. History.

The Road to Repair event will be held on Sunday, June 1, at 2:30 p.m. CST at the historic Greenwood Cultural Center, 322 N. Greenwood Ave, Tulsa, OK, 74120. Mayor Nichols’ announcement will serve as the culmination of the event, and he will begin speaking at 3:30 p.m.

During his announcement, Mayor Nichols will discuss the historic steps being taken to heal the wounds of the past and build a stronger, more unified future for Tulsa.
