East 91st Street, between South Harvard and South Yale Avenues to Open to Traffic Ahead of School Year

As construction continues along East 91st Street between South Harvard and South Yale Avenues, the City of Tulsa is implementing a traffic plan ahead of the start of the school year to help improve access to Jenks East Intermediate and Jenks East Elementary.
      
Beginning Aug. 13, East 91st Street between South Harvard and South Yale avenues will reopen to through traffic with one lane open in each direction. Until then, the roadway will remain an active construction zone as crews complete the work necessary to safely reopen the street. Individuals attending Jenks Public Schools Meet the Teacher events prior to the 13th will need to use other detoured routes.

Motorists are encouraged to use caution, follow all posted traffic control devices and be aware of construction crews working in the area. Drivers should expect delays during morning drop-offs, afternoon pick-ups, and after-school activities, and are encouraged to allow additional travel time when traveling through the area. Drivers should also slow down, remain alert, follow all posted traffic signs and use extra caution in and around the school zone.

While the updated traffic plan is intended to improve access during the school year, construction on the project will continue through late fall. The traffic plan was developed in coordination with Jenks Public Schools, City of Tulsa Engineering Services, and Tulsa City Councilor Phil Lakin to help maintain safe and efficient access for students, families, school staff, and nearby residents while construction continues.

As construction continues, crews will reconstruct and extend bridge structures to accommodate roadway regrading and the addition of new sidewalks aimed at improving safety for both motorists and pedestrians.

Work will also include relocating a 12-inch and 36-inch waterline, which will be scheduled for early fall to ensure uninterrupted water service during summer months. Portions of the existing roadway at the east and west ends of the project will also be milled and overlaid to provide a smoother driving surface once existing construction is complete.

The City of Tulsa contracted with Paragon Contractors for the $4,985,000 project, funded through the Improve Our Tulsa sales tax. Construction is anticipated to be completed later this fall, weather permitting.
