An intersection improvement project at East 91st Street and South Riverside Drive is expected to begin on Monday, June 16.
The project includes full pavement replacement at the intersection, asphalt compaction to strengthen the surface of the road, and drainage improvements to better manage storm runoff.
These upgrades were made possible through a survey process that started in the spring of 2024 and a design phase that occurred in the spring of 2025. Ultimately, these upgrades will support long-term durability at the intersection, which sees almost 30,000 vehicles a day.
During the first phase of the project, the outermost northbound and southbound lanes of S. Riverside Dr. will be closed near the intersection with traffic limited to one way in each direction. The right turn lane on E. 91st St. will also be closed during this phase, with closures expected to last two weeks. Once completed, these lanes will reopen to two-way traffic.
The second phase of the project will then begin on June 30. During this time, the innermost northbound and southbound lanes of S. Riverside Dr. will be closed to traffic, limiting drivers to one lane in either direction. This phase will last for two weeks and once completed, all lanes will reopen.
The City of Tulsa has contracted with Becco Contractors for this $500,000 project funded through the Improve Our Tulsa sales tax. Construction is scheduled for completion by mid-July 2025.
Drivers are encouraged to follow signed detour routes, use caution in the area and allow extra time for travel.
