Electrically powered, all-terrain wheelchairs are now available by reservation, opening up Oxley’s trails to visitors of all abilities.
Two new all-terrain track chairs are now available at Oxley Nature Center, opening up Tulsa’s forest trails to visitors of all abilities.
Thanks to generous support from the Oxley Nature Center Association and private donors, these electric-powered chairs, valued at $15,000 each, are available to reserve for free. The chairs are designed to handle uneven and natural terrain, allowing users to explore nearly all of Oxley’s scenic trail system.
“This is an incredible opportunity to connect more people to nature,” said Anna America, Director of Tulsa Parks. “From lifelong outdoor lovers to students attending their first field trip, these track chairs open access to the natural world in ways that weren’t possible before. It’s a game-changer for accessibility in Tulsa’s parks.”
The chairs can travel up to 5 mph and operate for approximately 2.5 hours on a single charge. Joystick controls are adaptable for right- or left-handed users, and the chairs can handle most trails, except for narrow bridge crossings and creek areas marked on the provided trail maps.
There are no eligibility requirements to use the chairs; however, users must be accompanied by a non-disabled companion and complete a brief safety orientation and waiver.

“We’ve already heard from long-time volunteers and first-time visitors who have experienced the trails in new ways,” said Maggie Regan, Programs Manager at Oxley Nature Center. “For some, it’s the first time they’ve been deep into the woods – seeing and hearing wildlife, feeling the breeze, really experiencing nature. It’s deeply meaningful – and long overdue.”
Track chairs are available for daily check-out by reservation. Oxley staff will help users get started and ensure a safe and enjoyable trail experience.
Tulsa Parks encourages the public to share this new opportunity with friends, family, and community members. Everyone deserves a chance to experience the healing and joy that nature brings.
