The Tulsa Financial Empowerment Center (FEC) and Goodwill Industries of Tulsa Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA) will celebrate Advance Child Tax Credit Day on Friday, July 9, from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m.
The event being held at Goodwill VITA on 1667 S. Yale Ave. will offer free tax preparation for families who are eligible to receive the credit but have not yet filed an income tax return. Those eligible could receive payments of up to $300 per child automatically through the Child Tax Credit.
On Friday, volunteers will prepare and electronically file tax returns in person. Individuals and families with household incomes less than $57,000 are eligible for the free tax preparation service.
Representatives with the Tax Advocate Office and Legal Aid of Oklahoma Low-Income Tax Clinic will be at the event to help troubleshoot and resolve taxpayers’ tax issues.
Goodwill Industries of Tulsa manages the VITA program and is a partner with the City of Tulsa to provide financial counseling at no cost to Tulsans. Since December 2020, the counselors have helped 92 clients and held more than 254 sessions. A total of $24,348 in savings have been built by FEC clients, along with $10,803 debt reduced.
