1921 Graves Test Excavation at Oaklawn Cemetery Complete

The test excavation to uncover potential mass graves from the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre within the Sexton area at Oaklawn Cemetery, where an anomaly was previously discovered, concluded today. Following eight days of searching, findings indicate no evidence of human remains are present in the excavation area.

Tulsa Curbside Recycling Update – March 14

Since the return of curbside recycling January 31, the City of Tulsa has noticed a higher-than-average number of contaminated recycling carts. Most contamination has been seen in the form of plastic bags, Styrofoam, and other non-recyclable materials. Contaminated carts are not picked up and are identified with a yellow or white tag.

After a recommendation from the Greenwood Cultural Center Board, Mayor G.T. Bynum selected the Moody Nolan / JCJ Architecture team to lead the Greenwood Cultural Center’s renovation project. On Mon., Oct. 19, the City of Tulsa will begin the second test excavation and core sampling for the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre Graves Investigation with members of the University of Oklahoma - Oklahoma Archaeological Survey (OAS) and the 1921 Graves Physical Investigation Committee at Oaklawn Cemetery, 1133 E. 11th St.
