City Hall and other City facilities will be closed Monday, May 28, for Memorial Day. Public safety and mission critical operations, however, will operate as normal.
Unless officially noted as prohibited with Tulsa Parks signage, fishing is currently allowed at any public body of water within Tulsa (including park ponds & stormwater retention areas). As of October 2021, Tulsa Park is now partnering with the Oklahoma State Department of Wildlife Conservation (ODWC) to develop and provide a Close to Home Fishing program. The state’s Close to Home Fishing Program was designed as a partnership between the Wildlife Department and municipalities across Oklahoma to provide urban angling opportunities. These small bodies of water are stocked with fish and managed with special regulations, ensuring opportunities exist for anglers who may only have a little time on their hands and nowhere to go. More importantly, they offer urban dwellers an opportunity to share their fishing heritage with others.
918 Day (Sept. 18) is almost here and the City of Tulsa has a variety of options for Tulsans to get involved as we celebrate our city’s diversity and growth. The City launched 918 Day in 2018 as part of the Resilient Tulsa Strategy, which calls for increasing social cohesion by facilitating connections and community-building in all corners of the city. This year’s theme is, “Rising Through Resilience.” To celebrate 918 Day, the Mayor’s Office of Resilience and Equity (MORE) will host a variety of activities, many of which are virtual this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Due to a fire at the Tulsa Recycle Transfer Facility (TRT), the City’s contracted recycling process facility, the City of Tulsa will send residential recycling to Covanta’s Trash to Energy Plant while repairs are being made at the TRT facility. Recycling customers should continue to place recycling in the blue cart and trash in the gray cart.
Mayor G.T. Bynum, Tulsa Parks officials, and community partners gathered September 29 to announce plans to build an inclusive playground at Whiteside Park, 4009 S. Pittsburg Ave. When completed, this new playground will be one of the most inclusive play spaces in the state of Oklahoma.
