YWCA Tulsa and the Mayor’s Commission on the Status of Women have opened nominations for the 2020 Women of the Year – Pinnacle Awards event. This event recognizes those women from the Tulsa community who are exemplary leaders, who have served as role models, and whose contributions have made a long-lasting impact. Women in Tulsa continue to make change and break barriers, and the event will celebrate those who are leaders in their fields.

Amy Brown Selected as Deputy Mayor for the City of Tulsa

Mayor G.T. Bynum announced Amy Brown will serve as Tulsa’s Deputy Mayor beginning Jan. 14, 2019. “Amy Brown has one of the best minds I’ve encountered in public service at any level. I’ve worked with her for years, both on the City Council and now in the Mayor’s Office. Over the last two years, she has taken on some of our most challenging projects - from improving the city government as a workplace to establishing the Tulsa Jail. She has proven herself as an adept manager and leader and will make a great Deputy Mayor. I am thankful she has agreed to move into this role,” Mayor G.T. Bynum said.

Coronavirus, COVID-19 Update in Tulsa – March 16

The State and Tulsa Health Departments have confirmed three residents in Tulsa County have tested positive with Coronavirus-COVID-19 from travel – one has already recovered. As with the flu, the COVID-19 virus is spread from person-to-person contact. With confirmed cases in Tulsa and the weekend announcement of community spread in Oklahoma, we need to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions by following basic health tips on hand washing and social distancing. Though most recover from this illness, COVID-19 is more severe in elderly populations and in those with underlying medical conditions.
