918 Day (Sept. 18) is almost here and the City of Tulsa has a variety of options for Tulsans to get involved as we celebrate our city’s diversity and growth. The City launched 918 Day in 2018 as part of the Resilient Tulsa Strategy, which calls for increasing social cohesion by facilitating connections and community-building in all corners of the city. This year’s theme is, “Rising Through Resilience.” To celebrate 918 Day, the Mayor’s Office of Resilience and Equity (MORE) will host a variety of activities, many of which are virtual this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. City Hall and other City facilities will be closed Monday, Sept. 2, for Labor Day. Public safety and mission critical operations, however, will operate as normal. On March 6, the first Tulsa County resident was confirmed positive for COVID-19. On July 23, 1 percent of Tulsa County residents had tested positive for COVID-19. By August 30, more than 2 percent of Tulsa County tested positive. As long as the virus continues to spread in the community, residents are at risk of contracting the virus. Older adults and people with underlying medical conditions are at increased risk for severe illness that may result in hospitalization, intensive care, a ventilator or even death. The best way to protect yourself, protect the most vulnerable, and help reduce the spread of COVID-19 is to follow the “three W’s”:
Recent winter weather, freezing temperatures, and heavy rains have caused an uptick in potholes around Tulsa. In less than one minute, anyone can report potholes in the city of Tulsa at any time of the day by using the Tulsa 311 app. Pothole reporting is one of the first things you'll see on the main page. Alternatively, Tulsans can also report potholes by emailing the pothole's exact location and other important details to tulsa311@cityoftulsa.org. For those with an account at Tulsa311.com, potholes may also be reported online through that system. Please note, all highway and on/off-ramp road repairs are the responsibility of ODOT.
Last year the Community Service Council launched the Oklahoma Veteran Connections program to help connect local veterans and their families with services. The program began with 12 agencies, but in the last year has grown to 35 agencies and between them has handled over 1,100 referrals for more than 700 veterans and their families.
