Emergency Medical Services

The Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Division provides essential medical support for Tulsa’s front-line apparatus, operating within the Support Division of the Tulsa Fire Department (TFD). The EMS Branch is responsible for education, quality improvement, logistics, and credential management for our team members. It also staffs our Mobile Integrated Healthcare (MIH) programs, which focus on holistic, community-based care.

TFD’s mission is to protect and preserve lives during trauma-related incidents and serious medical emergencies. EMS teams assess, treat, and stabilize patients on-site until they can be safely transported. We deploy basic and advanced life support responders strategically across Tulsa, offering comprehensive pre-hospital medical care to residents.
Our commitment to training is a cornerstone of our EMS operations. All Tulsa firefighters begin as Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs), and we also employ paramedics who provide Advanced Life Support (ALS) on 16 front-line apparatus across the city.

Programs:

TFD provides specialized programs to meet the specific needs identified in the community. These programs require specialized training above the required training level to be a firefighter.

Mobile Integrated Healthcare: Our MIH program offers patient-centered, mobile healthcare resources outside of the hospital setting, linking residents with a spectrum of healthcare and social services in Tulsa.

Special Operations Team: Specially trained paramedics work alongside the Tulsa Police Department’s Special Operations Team, providing medical support for high-risk situations such as armed standoffs, high-risk warrant service, dignitary protection, and hostage rescues.

Bike Team:
Our multi-level Bike Team includes Level 1 and Level 2 trained responders who provide medical support at special events like the Tulsa State Fair, Tulsa Tough, and Freedom Fest. Level 2 responders are trained for rugged environments, such as Turkey Mountain.

Robotics: TFD incorporates robotics to enhance our 9-1-1 system capabilities. Our robots, which operate on land, water, and air, help provide rapid, innovative emergency response.
