Tulsa is beginning to phase in new traffic signals with a flashing yellow arrow for permissive left turns. The first four of these new traffic signals will begin operating on Tuesday, Oct. 1.
As temperatures are expected to get above freezing today, street crews have turned their focus toward pothole repairs. Water and Sewer crews are on 24/7 operations as they respond to the record number of waterline breaks occurring in Tulsa as a result of the extremely cold temperatures. City Hall, Municipal Court, and other City facilities will be closed for Labor Day on Monday, Sept. 4. Public safety and mission-critical operations, however, will operate as normal.
City contract crews continue to remove overhanging or unstable branches, limbs, or trees in the right of way or public spaces following the June 18 storm. More than 45,000 hanging branches in the public rights-of-way, over sidewalks, and in Parks have been identified for removal. Currently, 14,191 have been removed.

Wednesday evening, the Tulsa City Council approved a resolution encouraging mask-wearing in Tulsa (in accordance with CDC guidance), and vaccination for Tulsans ages 12 and up. The resolution, which was passed with an emergency clause, will take effect immediately following Mayor G.T. Bynum’s signature.
As the Keystone Dam release rate is gradually decreased over the next several days, the levee system continues to be the primary focus. Water has saturated the levees and as release rates are stepped down, crews will work around the clock to ensure the levee system’s integrity. The levee system continues to be monitored 24/7. Residents living behind the levees and evacuees from behind the levees need to remain vigilant.

Early Thursday morning, street crews worked to treat the roadways, elevated surfaces and slick spots with salt. Night shift personnel will focus on brine (salt/water mix) application to the roads as needed.
