Balancing the budget at the City of Tulsa is not much different than balancing a budget at home. The money going out must not exceed the money coming in. State law requires the City of Tulsa to have a balanced budget. The City of Tulsa receives its money from several major sources, including five local taxes: sales tax, use tax, franchise tax/right-of-way user fees from utility companies, hotel/motel tax, and ad valorem tax. Other sources include enterprise revenues from airport charges, golf course fees, and utility services - water, sewer, refuse and stormwater. The City also obtains revenue from licenses and permits, culture and recreation facilities, municipal court fines, public safety fees, interest earnings, federal grants and shared revenue from state government.

On Monday, January 23, Mayor Bynum shared his 2022 Annual Report that highlighted last year’s successes as we head into 2023. The report details a variety of programs, projects and events the City of Tulsa team worked on and championed over the past year.
City Hall, Municipal Court and other City facilities will be closed Monday, May 31, for Memorial Day. Public safety and mission critical operations, however, will operate as normal. Mayor G.T. Bynum announced the City of Tulsa and USA BMX have reached an agreement to secure a 30-year commitment in Tulsa. Through funding provided by voters in Vision Tulsa, the City will construct a new National Headquarters, National Track Stadium containing both an Olympic-caliber and Amateur Track, and Hall of Fame Museum at the Evans Fintube site in Tulsa.
